Opportunity: Sol 3,600

Mars rover Opportunity's path to Endeavour CraterMars Exploration Rover Opportunity, built for a mission lasting 90 sols (Martian days), is experiencing its 3,600th sol on Mars today, March 10, 2014. Currently, the rover is exploring Murray Ridge on the Solander Point rim segment of Endeavour Crater.

In January 2014, on the 10th anniversary of Opportunity’s landing on Mars, NASA released a photomap of its journey. The image caption read, “NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity has been working on Mars since landing inside Eagle Crater on Jan. 25, 2004…. The gold line on this image shows Opportunity’s route from the landing site, in upper left, to the area it is investigating on the western rim of Endeavour Crater as of the rover’s 10th anniversary on Mars, in Earth years. In its first decade of driving on Mars, Opportunity covered a total of 24.07 miles (38.73 kilometers)….” [More at link]
