Opportunity: Hills on the far horizon

This image (click for larger version) shows hills on the south-southeast horizon. These appear to be the profile of Iazu Crater’s rim and ejecta blanket, which lie roughly 20 kilometers (12 miles) away from Opportunity’s current location.

The rover’s next target, however, lies a lot closer. Marathon Valley is about 500 meters (1,600 feet) ahead to the south along the Endeavour Crater rim. Opportunity raw images, its latest mission status, a location map. and atmospheric opacity, known as tau.
