At right, the Navcam captured streams of dust on the rover’s rear solar panel. The dust was shaken loose from Opportunity’s upper surfaces by the vibration of the spinning wheels, as the rover struggled for several days to climb the 32° slope. The wheels spun enough to have carried the rover 20 meters (66 feet) on a flat surface. But it still failed to reach the outcrop only a few meters upslope.
