South polar Swiss cheese terrain (THEMIS_IOTD_20160826)THEMIS Image of the Day, August 26, 2016. This VIS image of the south polar cap shows a surface with hundreds of circular depressions. This texture is similar in appearance to Swiss cheese. It is caused by solar heating as the Sun appears to track around the horizon during the polar daytime.
