THEMIS Image of the Day, November 9, 2016. Today’s false color image shows the delta deposit in Eberswalde Crater. Channels from the crater rim hosted material entering the crater.
This crater and its delta deposit were shortlisted as a possible Curiosity landing site — now it’s #4 on the list of candidates (PDF) for NASA’s Mars 2020 rover.
The THEMIS VIS camera contains 5 filters. The data from different filters can be combined in multiple ways to create a false color image. These false color images may reveal subtle variations of the surface not easily identified in a single band image.
