Opportunity: Closeup on Jornada del Muerto

4978-navcamSols 4977-78, January 23-24, 2018. On Sol 4977, rover scientists put the Microscopic Imager to work on a rough-surfaced target dubbed Jornada del Muerto (right). This rock has a surface texture that appears unlike others seen before.

The Navcam composite above was taken the next day. (The left-side Navcam, which took these frames, has picked up some dust on its optics. This is producing the light-gray circular patch at top center in each frame.) Click either image to enlarge it.
