THEMIS: False color on Chryse Planitia

Chryse Planitia in false color (THEMIS_IOTD_20181025)THEMIS image of the Day, October 25, 2018. This false-color VIS image shows some of the plains of Chryse Planitia.

The numerous low bumps seen in the image may be related to the giant floods that poured across Chryse, which lies where numerous outflow channels empty into the northern lowlands. If so, the bumps might be giant frost-heaves.

The THEMIS VIS camera contains 5 filters. The data from different filters can be combined in multiple ways to create a false color image. These false color images may reveal subtle variations of the surface not easily identified in a single band image.
