THEMIS: Tectonic ‘grid’ in Noctis Labyrinthis, plus a landslide triggered by impact

Fault patterns in Noctis Labyrinthus (THEMIS_IOTD_20181030)THEMIS Image of the Day, October 30, 2018. This VIS image is located in Noctis Labyrinthus. There are two directions of faults visible, which intersect at an approximately 90 degree angle. The faults running from bottom right to upper left are the younger set. The change in direction indicates a change in the tectonic stresses in the region.

As an added bonus, the crater next to the canyon rim shows that the force of the impact triggered a landslide of rim rock into the canyon.
