THEMIS Image of the Day, November 17, 2016. Today’s false color image shows dunes on the floor of an unnamed crater in Terra Sabaea. The dunes have piled up in the lee of the rdge that lies to the lower right of them. The false color indicates the sand grains are chiefly basaltic in composiiton.
The THEMIS VIS camera contains 5 filters. The data from different filters can be combined in multiple ways to create a false color image. These false color images may reveal subtle variations of the surface not easily identified in a single band image.
