THEMIS Image of the Day, April 13, 2017. Today’s false color image shows a small portion of Daedalia Planum. This part of Mars is built up from countless interwoven lava flows that have spilled from the giant volcanos of Tharsis lying just to the north.
The THEMIS VIS camera contains 5 filters. The data from different filters can be combined in multiple ways to create a false color image. These false color images may reveal subtle variations of the surface not easily identified in a single band image.
