A look back during this sol’s 121-meter (400-foot) drive reveals the rover’s winding path as it dodged rougher patches of ground. Mission controllers have kept Curiosity on smoother and softer terrain as a way of minimizing wear on the wheels. But as Curiosity continues toward Mount Sharp, the way ahead will necessarily take the rover across more challenging terrain.
