Opportunity: Pancam pavement scrutiny

4329-31-pancamSols 4329-31, March 29-31, 2016. While Opportunity failed to reach its target at Knudsen Ridge because of the steep slope and loose surface, mission scientists have not given up their goal of finding and studying the water-altered clay minerals spotted here using orbital remote sensing. They have commanded the rover’s Pancam to take a multi-wavelength portrait (still incomplete) of the rover’s current location, focusing on the bare rock and gravel surface of Marathon Valley’s floor. This mosaic uses false-color images reconstructed by Holger Isenberg; click to enlarge.

Opportunity raw images, its latest mission status, a location map. and atmospheric opacity, known as tau.
