Opportunity: Marathon Valley

3906-marathonSol 3906, January 19, 2015. Marathon Valley is the rover’s next waypoint — but where is it in the terrain ahead? See the two-frame Pancam composite above. (Click on the image to load a larger version in a new browser tab.) Note also how the ground near the valley appears rougher, with more low outcrops, than the terrain the rover is currently on. The outcrops likely hold scientific interest, but how many of them — if any — can be explored with the rover operating in RAM-only-mode is unclear.

Opportunity raw images, its latest mission status, a location map. and atmospheric opacity, known as tau.
